Conceptual Blueprint - Online Course

Why are you here? You are here to learn two things:

  • what are the things that are indispensable to you in your new home?

  • how do you communicate them to a third party, to an architect, to designer?

The course is divided into four modules. The first module focuses on mindset, anchoring the reasons why you want your dream home. The next module looks at strategies of how you are going to achieve your dream home. Next we explore the tools and tactics to enable us to implement what we have discovered by producing a visual document which communicates out vision of a dream home. This is the manuscript which you will use when talking to your design professionals.

Step 1 - Mindset and Clarity

  • Why are you here?

  • Where are you now? Imagine yourself in your dream home.

  • Where do you want to go? The “Clarity Tool”.

  • What capabilities do you need to get there? Take some time to think about what you will learn, what you want to learn and what skills you will develop by doing this course.

  • Step 2 - Strategy and Self-Reflection

  • Look back. Quieten your mind with a guided meditation.

  • Identify your influences. Reflect on what came up during the meditation.

  • Identify your challenges. What are you worried about?

  • Step 3 - Tools and Tactics

  • Prioritize your influences and attach emotions to them.

  • Identify your “must haves” – the things you won’t compromise on.

  • Identify your “can haves” – the things that would be good to have but you could live without.

  • Prioritize your “can haves”.

  • Introspection. Share the “must haves” and “can haves” that you have in common with each other. Also share the ones you don’t have in common.

  • Step 4 - Create your Conceptual Blueprint *

  • Make a Vision Board which is a collage of images which represent your goals and aspirations.

  • Prepare a written Brief. This is a document outlining your expectations and requirements for the project. It will help the architect or designer to define the scope of the project.

  • Please Note:

The exercises in Module 4 are done in your own time. For the Vision Board collect all your images and other information and before you start sticking anything to the board, lay it out first and when you are happy then leave it for a while and come back later and re-examine it. Tweak if you need to and then finish it.

For the Design Brief look at the work you have done in this course has given write down what you have discovered or learned. These should be your clear ideas about what you want. This will give your architect or designer what they need to do for you in terms of a design concept.
